  1. Highwire Press: Free Online Full Text Articles

    HighWire Press is a division of the Stanford University Libraries, which produces the online versions of high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and other scholarly content. HighWire partners with influential scholarly societies, university presses and publishers to create a collection of the finest, fully searchable research and clinical literature online. Together, these partners produce nearly half of the 200 most-frequently-cited journals publishing in science. HighWire Press hosts the largest repository of free full-text life science articles in the world, with more than 750,000 free, full-text articles online. Since 1995, with the launch of the Journal of Biological Chemistry (JBC), to the continuous online production of hundreds of prestigious journals, such as Science Magazine, the New England Journal of Medicine, PNAS and JAMA, HighWire has established an outstanding reputation for helping to disseminate primary scientific information on the Web.


  2. USDA: Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education

    Since its inception in 1988, the USDA’s “Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program has helped advance farming systems that are profitable, environmentally sound and good for communities through a nationwide research and education grants program.” This nicely organized website presents a wide array of information and resources for farmers, ranchers, educators, researchers, and consumers interested in sustainable agriculture. Agriculturalists and others will be interested to learn more about SARE grant guidelines, and to peruse reports for approximately 2,500 previously funded projects. SARE posts upcoming events; and maintains an online collection of books, bulletins, and other resources through the Sustainable Agriculture Network. Site visitors can also view a 14-minute video about SARE, or simply order a free copy for themselves.


  3. TeNeT: The Telecommunication and Computer Networks Group

    TeNeT is a team of dedicated researchers working in the front line areas of Telecommunications and Computer Networking, at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India. The guiding team is drawn from the faculty at the departments of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science & Engineering, while over a hundred researchers, engineers and other technical staff support it. Currently, the group works in areas such as Networking, Digital Systems Architecture and Fibre Optics. Soon, it plans to focus on emerging avenues like Network Management Systems and Integrated Voice/ Video Data Communications. Established a decade ago, with the objectives of developing economical solutions for the emerging era, pioneering academic research in this confluent field and nurturing a skilled manpower base in this vibrant branch, TeNeT collaborates with a number of like-minded R & D organisations, with many of whom it enjoys strategic alliances and tie-ups. In addition, the group also works with many small and medium-size industrial units.Thanks to such associations, TeNeT has successfully implemented many enterprising projects and introduced innovative products.In the years to come, the group hopes to grow into an R & D consortium, working closely with many companies in developing versatile, low-cost systems.Bringing about a revolution in the world of communication.


  4. C-DOT: Centre for Development of Telematics ( Govt. of India)

    C-DOT is the premier telecom technology development centre of India. Though established only in 1984, it already has many noteworthy successes to its credit. C-DOT has developed a wide range of Digital Switching Systems for rural and urban applications. The range extends from a 200 lines Rural Automatic Exchange (RAX) to a 40,000 lines switching systems meant for urban applications. Complete with CCS7 signalling, ISDN, Network Synchronisation and V5.X capabilities, the switching systems based on C-DOT technology have a large presence in Indian telecom network. They account for over 40% of the total lines of the network. In terms of exchanges, the share is above 90% as C-DOT technology enjoys a leadership position in the rural network comprising small exchanges. The ability of small switches to work reliably in harsh non-airconditioned environments make them particularly attractive for the developing countries. C-DOT is a multidimensional organisation with many other technologies in radio, optoelectronics, satellite and network management fields. Work is also in progress on many leading edge technologies like SDH, ATM, Fibre Access Systems etc.


  5. C-DAC: Centre for Development of Advanced Computing

    Established in March 1988, as a Scientific Society of the Department of Information Technology (formerly, Dept. of Electronics), Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (formerly, Ministry of Information Technology), Government of India, The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), is primarily an R & D institution involved in the design, development and deployment of advanced Information Technology (IT) based solutions. In a little over a decade since inception, C-DAC has developed and supplied a range of high performance parallel computers, known as the PARAM series of supercomputers. C-DAC's development activities in this area have been mission oriented and driven by its mission objectives, both in technology and application developments

  7. ADAM: the Art, Design, Architecture & Media Information Gateway

    ADAM, the Art, Design, Architecture & Media Information Gateway, is a service being developed to help you find useful, quality-assured information on the Internet in the following subject areas:

    • Fine Art, including painting, prints and drawings, sculpture and other contemporary media and practices, including fine art using technology and performance art
    • Design, including industrial, product, fashion, graphic, packaging and interior design
    • Architecture, including town planning and landscape design, but excluding building construction

    ADAM helps you find the relevant information by providing a searchable on-line catalogue describing Internet resources such as web sites or electronic mailing lists, in much the same way as a library catalogue describes bibliographic resources such as books and journals.

    Is a directory focusing on conferences, conventions, trade shows, exhibits, workshops, events and business meetings. This is a unique search directory that serves users looking for specific information on conference or event information. The information ranges from specialized scientific, medical and academic conferences to all kinds of general events.


  9. International Journal of Intelligent Games & Simulation

    This publication, from the University of Wolverhampton UK and The Society for Modeling and Simulation International (SCS Europe BVBA) offers technical papers relating to games. The August 2007 issue includes articles on multiplayer games, game-based learning, and artificial intelligence (AI). The full articles are available to download once the visitor completes the no-cost registration procedure. Additional information on submitting articles is also provided.


  10. Circuit Sage

    Circuit Sage aims to be "a complete source of information to help you design great circuits fast." Visitors can link on a circuit diagram or categories listed on the sidebar to learn more about various aspects of circuitry. Topics include A/D, Bandgap, Filter, Inductor, and Transceiver Design. The number of resources is a bit mind-boggling, ranging from articles, to software (for purchase), and online tools. Another section offers a "Routine of the Week" to help you mathematically size your circuit.


  11. Cyber-State.org

    Cyber-state.org was formed based on recommendations from the Michigan Information Technology Commission. The organization is non-partisan and "advocates for ICT to benefit everyone in Michigan." The organization lists its priority areas as: Community ICT capacity, technology literacy for education and workforce development, civic participation through public information and services, quality online health information, and ICT policy and strategy leadership. To these ends, it analyzes, evaluates and reports on Michigan's ICT capacity and policy. The organization's new report, released in June 2007, evaluates Michigan's Local Government websites. The report includes a breakdown of the evaluation criteria. Other sections of the website review the organization's research and programs on enabling technologies (such as wireless satellite, digital broadband, high-speed fiber optics, online communications, and interactive software developments), as well as technology in education, health care, and business.


  12. Connexions

    Developed through a project at Rice University, Connexions is a place for sharing free scholarly materials to promote educational collaboration and allow authors to expand the reach of their course materials. The website is powered by open source software, which allows registered users to post materials and create custom modules. Individuals are encouraged to contribute if they have course materials "and want to maximize its impact" or are hoping to translate their course or module into another language. Visitors can search or browse the materials already posted in the content Commons without registering. There are already thousands of postings ranging from animal rights to an overview of signals and systems. A Roadmap plug-in assists in navigation and shows how content in one module relates to other topics. A software technology page provides additional information on the open source toolkit under development as part of this project.


  13. MIT Open Course Ware: Mathematics

    The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with funding from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and MIT, has launched this "large-scale, Web-based electronic publishing initiative." The website posts lecture notes, problem sets, and other materials from courses across the MIT campus. This section highlights MIT's undergraduate and graduate program in Mathematics. Courses are listed by title and include topics such as Differential Analysis, Linear Algebra, and Statistical Inference. The materials serve as valuable resources for educators, students, or anyone interested in learning more about these topics.


  14. Technology Review: Supercomputers and Hurricane Prediction

    This article, from Technology Review, discusses the ways supercomputers are employed in the prediction of a hurricane's likely course and strength. The supercomputers are capable of resolving "complex mathematical equations that describe the atmosphere's behavior across the globe, hundreds of microprocessors perform billions of calculations each second on observations collected by sensors dropped by aircraft and other monitors." However, the article also notes that these predictions are still imperfect. The author concludes with a discussion of some reasons why the predictions are particularly challenging and reviews the National Atmospheric and Oceanographic Administration's plans for "a new higher resolution model that better addresses the interaction of the sea, land and atmosphere.

  16. GIAN: Gujarat Grassroot Innovations Augmentation Network

  17. National Innovation Foundation

    The Department of Science and Technology help establish the National Innovation Foundation (NIF) of India, on March 1 2000, with the main goal of providing institutional support in scouting, spawning, sustaining and scaling up grassroots green innovations and helping their transition to self supporting activities. The foundation has a Governing Body chaired by Dr. R. A. Mashelkar, Secretary, DSIR and Director General CSIR. Professor Anil K. Gupta, President SRISTI and Professor Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, is the Executive Vice Chairperson of NIF. More details are given on the website.

By taking the Home Energy quiz, individuals can discover easy ways to save energy. Those, who have views on global warming they would like to share can submit their thoughts to NOVA.

The news site covers stories related to adventure and exploration, archaeology and paleontology, kids' news, science and technology, people and culture, the environment, and travel. Users can discover Special Series which cover emerging explorers, oceans, the pulse of the planet, and so much more. The incredible images warrant a visit all by themselves.


  21. Organization of World Heritage Cities

    Cities around the world have served as the primary repositories for human culture, innovation, and diversity for millennia, so it makes sense that there is a worldwide organization dedicated to some of these important historic places. Founded in 1993, the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC) consists of 208 cities, which have a combined population of 125 million. Some of their programs include symposia and seminars dealing with the management, development, and preservation of historic sites, along with creating an active and vibrant network among these places. In the section titled “The Preservation Challenge”, visitors can read some of the key documents dealing with the organization, along with information on their current initiatives. Visitors may also find out about the various cities that are part of the organization, such as Damascus, Tunis, and Galle. Finally, the site also contains registration and program material for the 8th OWHC World Symposium 2008, which will be held in Cuzco, Peru.
